To Drink or Not to Drink????
How many of us have ever made one of the following statements: "It's the holiday, I'm going to treat myself","It's Wednesday so I will a have a bottle of wine" or "It's the fourth of July and I CANNOT have BBQ without beer!"? I think we all have at one time or another uttered those words. However, once you realize some of the negative affects that alcohol can have on your healthy lifestyle, you might just change your tune. A 12 ounce glass of beer, a 5 ounce glass of wine or 1 1/2 ounces of distilled spirits contain about the same amount of alcohol, at least 110 calories. And yes those calories do count and contain no nutritional value! Alcohol is a depressant and thus will slow down your metabolism by a whopping 30%! Think about the amount of time that you spend on the treadmill to burn 110 calories and how fast alcohol can reverse all that work! That being said, it is OK to have a drink, just drink in moderation. Limit yourself to two drinks at a party or BBQ and make them count. Perhaps have rum and diet coke or white wine. Whatever choice you make, Think Responsibly! ; )
