Healthy Competition
The kids in our summer boot camp program demonstrate the importance of being physically fit and enjoying it! Today we through heart pumping obstacle course and finished off with a friendly game of soccer. The kids really enjoyed it and even got a little competitive. There was loads of laughter in between the heavy breathing! Reb-L Fit-tastik!~

It's not a Diet, It's a Lifestyle Change!
Always remember that being unhealthy, overweight or out of shape did not happen overnight so don't expect drastic changes the moment you begin to eat healthier or workout. Eating properly does take effort and weight loss is gradual. However, the time you put in is a lifelong investment. You don't just eat healthy for six weeks and then the weight magically stays off. The weight has a greater chance of staying off if you make the changes permanent. Your body will have time to adjust to it's new weight and shape. You are only given one body, so take good care of it!

DIETERS BEWARE!!
If it's too good to be true it probably is! A fad diet is one that promises fast weight loss in a short period of time. Generally you have to eliminate certain food groups, eat tiny portions of one type of food, take a pill, or even reduce calories below 1000 per day. And yes you may be able to lose weight, but the real question is.....Can you do this for the rest of your life? The best "diet" is the one that has kept people healthy throughout history; that is a balanced diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low fat protein sources (meat, milk, beans and legumes). And of course no healthy lifestyle is complete without exercise!

Portion Distortion
Portion control, portion control, portion control! Even healthy food has calories and the bottom line is that if you eat more calories than your body requires YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT! If a healthy snack has 100 calories per serving and there are 5 servings in the package be sure to measure the serving that we are eating. A light snack can quickly become a meal if we don't watch our portions. Try to keep meals between 300 and 500 calories and snacks between 100 and 300 calories. Small frequent meals are the best because they increase your metabolism and keep you from getting too hungry between meals.

Make the Switch
Try making healthy substitutions at each meal. Drink skim or 1% milk, sauté vegetables in chicken broth instead of oil, and rather than cooking things in butter, steam them and then spritz them with some butter spray. Try having a homemade smoothie for dessert rather than ice cream, and go for whole grain pasta’s and breads over the processed white stuff. There are easy ways to reduce calories without sacraficing taste!

Be Accountable!
The best way we can stay on track is by holding ourselves accountable. Keep track of everything that you eat for a few days, including the swipe your finger makes through the brownie batter! You might be surprised how often a 'little' treat pops into your mouth during the day. By the end of the day you could have easily consumed one big treat! If you bite it write it! This way we pay more attention to what we eat!

How Much Should You Eat?
A successful weight loss plan requires knowing the quantity and type of food to eat. If we take in more calories than we use, we store them as fat. Weight maintenance also requires eating properly. Listen as Becky gives us some tips on how to do this.
